AAOS Conference 2014

08 April 2014

"All of our major clients were attending the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons event, and many of them showcasing the signature instruments we have developed for them," says Enztec General Manager Paul Morrison.

Several clear themes emerged from discussions with the leading orthopaedics companies, says Paul.

“They are typically constrained in their ability to design, engineer and manufacture high quality surgical instrument sets. Some implant product programmes are stalled by a lack of resource to develop and deliver appropriate instrument sets, which makes a design to delivery service like Enztec’s an increasingly attractive option.”

There is however frustration with the lack of discipline around delivery from instrument suppliers, says Paul. “We are obsessive about focussing on delivery timelines and communicating with our customer throughout the process, but it is not the industry norm.

Paul said official feedback from a leading European orthopaedics client for which Enztec recently finished a project, was that “Enztec’s accuracy and reliability didn’t have any competitors in the industry.”

“Quality is really a minimum requirement for instruments. Well made, certified surgical instruments are a minimum requirement for orthopaedics companies, the real differentiator is becoming that certainty around delivery.”

Another clear theme from AAOS was the rapid advance of instrument design. “There was a greater level of interest than ever before in the styling of instruments, as orthopaedics company look for any edge in differentiating their implants.

“Enztec has always focussed on making beautiful, functional instruments and we will continue to invest in developing and enhancing this capability.”
