New Ownership for Enztec

We are pleased to announce that ownership of Enztec is back in New Zealand hands, as a result of significant investment by respected Wellington property owner, businessman and philanthropist, Mark Dunajtschik.

Mark says the major reasons for his decision to invest in Enztec were its location in Christchurch and his confidence in the 49 staff of highly qualified engineers who have created an excellent model to follow for other New Zealand manufacturing businesses struggling for a competitive advantage in the international marketplace.

Enztec was originally founded by Paul Morrison and James Burn in 1992. In 2005 a Birnie Capital established consortium invested in the business, allowing significant growth which then attracted investment from Boston-based Omni Orthopaedics in 2008.

The divestment of Enztec from Omni will allow Enztec to focus on its core capability of designing high quality orthopaedic instruments.  Enztec has learned from and valued its partnership with Omni.  We sincerely wish Omni all the best and will continue to service Omni's surgical instrumentation needs, particularly as it expands its robotics business.

We are excited by Mark's investment in Enztec and the opportunities that additional capital will provide to expand the company capabilities and capacity, and become a model New Zealand manufacturer.

At the same time, we are sad to farewell our General Manager and founder Paul Morrison. Paul has decided the time is right to focus his energies on another medical device start-up. We wish him well as he embarks on his next adventure and thank him for his daily dose of optimism and enthusiasm, it will certainly be missed.  Paul will continue his relationship with Enztec in a governance role, as part of our board of directors. He will be joined on the board by Mark Dunajtschik and Bill Birnie.

Effective from Thursday 30 March, Iain McMillan has taken over the General Manager role.  Iain has been involved with Enztec for the past 18 years in a variety of roles and he is looking forward to the challenges and future growth of Enztec.  The rest of the management team remains unchanged.

We remain dedicated to providing the high level of service and quality instruments that you have come to expect from us. We hope that this is a seamless transition for our customers and thank you for your continued support. As we proceed we expect many questions, so please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries or concerns.
